A manhunt is underway, with members of the general public urged to assist police discover a man accused of sexually assaulting a girl at an oval in Sydney’s southwest.

A 48-year-old lady was strolling alongside Maxwells Avenue at Ashcroft, close to the doorway to Blamfield Oval, between 2am and 3am on Saturday when she observed a cream-coloured, four-door ute stopped close by, police say.

The person within the driver’s seat, talking with a New Zealand accent, requested the girl for a cigarette lighter they usually had a brief dialog earlier than he drove away.

As the girl walked via the oval, she was approached from behind by the person and sexually assaulted.

The person fled and the girl attended a hospital a short while later.

He has been described as tall, with olive pores and skin, clear shaven, brown eyes, darkish hair and carrying a black and gray striped shirt.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anybody with data to return ahead.
