A lot is misplaced as scientists
from US miss conferences

Re: “Tons of of federal scientists lacking conferences, different work in shutdown” (Web page A4, Jan. 7):

How unlucky that one of many many casualties of the federal government shutdown is the flexibility of federal scientists to attend conferences which might be discussing excessive climate and local weather change.

Scientific collaboration yields essential insights. For instance, because of the Intergovernmental Panel on Local weather Change, we now know that the earlier international warming targets have been insufficient, and that we actually have to hold warming below 1.5 levels Celsius.

What new data are we lacking out on by retaining lots of of scientists away from these conferences?
