NEW YORK (AP) — Police are trying to find a swimmer who went lacking throughout a race down New York’s Hudson River.
Authorities say 67-year-old Charles van der Horst of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was reported lacking simply after three p.m. Friday close to the George Washington Bridge.
The New York Metropolis Police Division says the seek for van der Horst resumed Saturday after being suspended late Friday.
Van der Horst was collaborating in a multi-stage 120-mile race down the Hudson referred to as the eight Bridges Race. Organizers canceled Saturday’s seventh and last stage of the race.
New York Open Water, the group working the occasion, says security protocols have been in place and police have been escorting the swimmers.
Van der Horst is a retired professor of drugs on the College of North Carolina.
